A Treasured Possession

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 7: 6

Shiver me timbers.  Have me eyes run a rig on this ol’ mind of mine?  Or is that a hidden booty?  Argh, hang the rib…it was only me imagination.

I have a very wild imagination and admit that the thrill of running across some hidden booty of pirates has crossed my mind more than once while playing at the shores.  It really isn’t any discouragement to my wild imaginings that pirates burying treasure is based more in the imaginative mind of Robert Stevenson than it is based in fact.

But maybe it isn’t so strange this thrill/desire of mine, because our Abba desires a treasure too.   Just in case you missed the obvious in the above verse, I’m rewriting it here in the NIV translation…

For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

Deuteronomy 7: 6

Did you catch that?  Let me emphasis a point in fact…The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the people on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession!

Though others may not treasure you, it is to their loss.  God has spoken and what He has spoken is to say YOU ARE HIS TREASURED POSSESSION!

When others overlook or forget you, remember you are treasured of God.  When others see flaws, weakness, or one who is simply bothersome, God sees a priceless treasure!  When others forget you, remember God has chosen you out of all the people on the face of the earth to be His!

Jesus shared a parable in which He spoke of you…

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Matthew 13: 45-46

Do you see yourself in this parable?  Not as the merchant, but as a pearl of great price.  I know most often I think of Jesus as the pearl of great price, and that He is.  But I want you to step back and give this a thought…Jesus as the merchant man, you as the pearl of great price.  You see, you are His treasured possession and Jesus gave all when He died on the cross, purchasing us for Himself, redeeming us from our sins. You are His pearl of great price!

Abba how beyond my scope of perception is Your love.  Infinite doesn’t begin to measure the width or depth of Your love for me.  Though my heart is full to overflowing, You continue to pour out your love upon me.  The words penned by Frederick M. Lehman do a much better job of expressing to our finite minds Your love…

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  Romans 15:13
