Nothing Left In The House

The Lettered Olive is a rare
find that takes looking and re-looking to find. The little shell reminds me of our supply of oil. Sometimes I’ll look and miss completely a
cruse discreetly tucked away in a corner…
"Lord, there is nothing left in
the house." The barrel is empty;
the cruse of oil is dry. Lord there is
no meal, nor is there any oil left. I
have no spark of joy, no hope of tomorrow.”
Have you ever spoken those words?
Sometimes life seems to press the last
drop of oil from our cruse. Pain robs
of sustenance. Long, sleepless nights
steal hope. And mornings come seemingly
without fresh promise.
But those are the times that we need
to look and re-look to find the oil of cruse tucked inconspicuously away in a discreet
corner.
I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." Joshua 1: 5
In complete honesty…When has God ever
left me with only despair and gloom?
When has God ever failed me?
Although the fig tree shall
not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall
fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the
fold, and there shall be no herd in the
stalls…Habakkuk 3: 17
“I will not fail thee, nor forsake
thee."
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
Psalm 22: 14
“I will not fail thee, nor forsake
thee."
…because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…
1 Peter 5: 8
“I will not fail thee, nor forsake
thee."
An increase in oil - a miracle of
grace. "I will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee." Against all hope,
there is hope.
