I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will
watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am
reproved.
Habakkuk 2: 1
When the sea is calm, I love to walk out on the jetty,
feel the salty breeze on my face, and just stand watch. Stand watch looking for the next ship to
come over the horizon, the next dolphin to break the surf, for whatever the
Lord has in waiting for me.
There are times in this life that I am
pulled by need to stand on a spiritual jetty, upon a tower, and stand watch for
the word of the Lord…those times when voices of discouragement or disbelief
come in.
So I move onto that spiritual jetty,
set my eyes and ears to the Lord, and wait for the word that will not only
silence but help me stand strong against despair and doubts. And God is always faithful. Through His word and His Spirit He brings a
word of comfort, a word of counsel.
I will hear what God the LORD
will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let
them not turn again to folly.
Psalm 85: 8
Holy Spirit, those times when I am
tossed about with despair and perplexed with doubts, stir my heart to move out
onto that jetty, and stand watch for the word of the Lord. Abba, help me to
make a habit to walk out, find a quiet place, and be alone with Your word
knowing without a doubt that You will speak a word of comfort, a word of
counsel. Abba, you are my rampart, my
stronghold, my God in whom I trust.
