The Waters
The voice of the LORD is upon
the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
Psalm 29: 3
If you have
ever visited the shore on a day that a tempest was blowing in, you know well
the sound of the thundering and crashing of the waves. It’s an awesome sight to see the water
churning and waves crashing one upon another, each wave falling upon the last
in its impatience to slap the shore and move back out only to come again. Any unfortunate creature caught in the anger
of these waves is mercilessly tossed about and often left stranded on the shore
broken and gasping.
My family and I have seen the effects of the fury of a
storm. Beside the broken shells are sea
creatures of different sorts that were washed and left by the waters to their
ill fate dying twisted in seaweed and debris.
Often the storms in our lives seem to do the same thing, leaving
us broken, gasping, and feeling dry upon a shore among debris. But unlike these unfortunate creatures, the
storms of our life are allowed by the Creator to bring us Life, not death. The suffering and pain we face, if
surrendered to God, will move us closer to the Life that God desires to live in
us.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jeremiah 28: 11
Abba, help me not to fear the storms of illness, finances,
relationships, or any other storm, but to realize that nothing will touch my
life that hasn’t first passed through Your loving hands, chosen specially for
the purpose of moving me to Your expected end.
